Privacy Policy — Recline Helper
Last updated: 10 September 2026
Introduction
Recline Helper ("the Helper") is a companion application to the Recline dialer, developed by Sumant Mourya. Its only purpose is to capture call audio when you ask Recline to record a call, and to store the resulting file on your device.
The Helper is not a standalone product. It has no account, no feed, no advertising and no analytics. If Recline is not installed, it does nothing.
Information we collect
The Helper collects no personal information and transmits nothing off your device.
It processes exactly one kind of data: the audio of a call you have chosen to record, plus the minimal metadata needed to label that recording — its duration, its file size, the phone number associated with the call, and the time it was made.
The Helper does not read your contacts, your call log, your messages, your location or your files. It has no internet permission role: it does not upload recordings, does not contact any server operated by the developer, and does not include any advertising or analytics SDK.
How recording works
Android restricts call-audio recording for ordinary apps. Recline Helper runs a small, tightly scoped capture service with the elevated access the platform requires, and does nothing else with it.
- Captured audio is handed straight to the ordinary app process for encoding.
- That process writes an M4A file to device storage.
- The elevated component captures audio and nothing more. It performs no network access and reads no other data on your device.
Because of this design, the Recline dialer holds no microphone permission and no accessibility service. The full architecture is described on the Recline Helper page.
Where recordings are stored
Recordings are stored on your device, in storage belonging to the Helper:
- Only the official Recline dialer can open them.
- Other apps installed on your phone cannot read them.
- Nothing is copied to any external or cloud location.
You can play, share or delete any recording from inside Recline. Deleting removes the file from your device. Clearing the Helper's app data, or uninstalling it, removes all recordings.
Permissions
The Helper requests only what capture and storage require:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Record Audio | Capture call audio when you start a recording. Held by the Helper, not by the dialer. |
| Foreground Service | Keep the recording service alive for the duration of a call. |
| Notifications | Show the ongoing recording notification Android requires. |
| Storage (scoped) | Write finished recordings to the app's own storage area. |
The Helper does not request contacts, SMS, call log, location or camera permissions.
The connection methods
To start the privileged process, the Helper must be activated once using one of four methods: Shizuku, Android's Wireless debugging, a single ADB command from a computer, or root.
These are activation mechanisms provided by Android and by Shizuku. The Helper does not collect or transmit anything about them. Pairing details entered for Wireless debugging are stored locally so you do not have to pair again after a reboot.
Data sharing
None. The Helper shares no data with the developer or with any third party, because it sends no data anywhere. There are no analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs in the Helper.
Your responsibility when recording
Laws about recording telephone calls vary widely between countries and, in some countries, between states. Some require the consent of all parties; some require only one.
You are responsible for complying with the law that applies to you, including any obligation to inform the other party that a call is being recorded. The developer provides the tool; how you use it is your decision and your legal responsibility.
Children's privacy
Recline Helper is not directed at children under the age of 13, and collects no personal information from anyone.
Security
Recordings never leave your device, so their security depends on your device's own protections — lock screen, disk encryption and OS-level app sandboxing. Access to recordings is restricted to the official Recline dialer, so other installed apps cannot read them.
