Introduction
DealNest ("we", "our", or "the app") is a hyperlocal marketplace application developed by Sumant Mourya. It connects buyers with sellers that are physically near them.
Because DealNest is a marketplace, it needs more data than a purely offline app: it has to know roughly where you are to show you nearby shops, and it has to hold seller details so buyers can find and contact them. This policy explains exactly what that means.
Information we collect
- Account information — your phone number, used to create your account and send one-time verification codes. Optionally a display name and profile photo.
- Approximate or precise location — used to show shops and deals near you. See below.
- Vendor information — if you register as a seller: business name, category, address, contact details, opening hours and any product listings you publish.
- App activity — searches you run, listings you open and deals you save, used to order the feed sensibly.
- Device & diagnostic data — device model, OS version, app version and crash logs.
We do not collect your contacts, call logs, SMS messages, or the contents of your photo library. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
Location data
- Location access is requested only when you use a feature that needs it — the map, the nearby feed, or setting a shop's pin.
- You can decline location access and still use the app by setting your area manually.
- DealNest does not track your location in the background. There is no continuous or passive location collection.
- Your precise coordinates are used to compute distance and are not shown to other users. Sellers see that a buyer is nearby, not where a buyer is.
- You can revoke location permission at any time from Android's settings, and clear stored location preferences from the app's privacy settings screen.
Vendor information
If you register a business on DealNest, the details you submit — business name, category, address, map pin, opening hours, contact number and product listings — are published publicly inside the app. That is the purpose of a storefront.
Do not enter personal information in vendor fields that you do not want other users to see. You can edit or remove your listing at any time, and requesting deletion of your vendor account removes the storefront from the marketplace.
How we use data
- To create and secure your account, and to verify your phone number
- To show shops, products and deals that are actually near you
- To let buyers and sellers find and contact each other
- To rank and filter the feed by relevance and distance
- To diagnose crashes and improve stability
- To detect fraud, spam listings and abuse of the platform
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not share it with data brokers.
Permissions
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Location | Show nearby shops and deals; set a vendor's map pin |
| Internet / Network state | Load listings, maps and images |
| Camera (optional) | Take photos of products when creating a listing |
| Photos / Media (optional) | Choose existing images for listings or your profile |
| Notifications | Deal alerts and enquiry updates you opted into |
Optional permissions are requested only at the moment you use the feature that needs them. Declining an optional permission does not block the rest of the app.
Third-party services
- Firebase Authentication — phone-number sign-in and one-time codes
- Firebase Cloud Firestore / Storage — storing listings, vendor profiles and images
- Firebase Crashlytics — anonymised crash and diagnostic reporting
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications you opted into
- Map and geocoding services — rendering the map and converting addresses to coordinates
These are operated by Google and governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. Where a map provider other than Google is used, it will be named here before release.
Retention & deletion
- Account data is kept while your account is active.
- Published listings remain visible until you remove them or your account is deleted.
- Crash diagnostics are retained by Firebase according to Google's own retention schedule.
- Deleting your account removes your profile, your listings and your saved preferences. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.
You can request account deletion from within the app, or by emailing SumantKushwaha.dev@gmail.com. Requests are actioned within 30 days.
Your rights
You can, at any time: access the data associated with your account; correct inaccurate profile or vendor details; withdraw location or notification permissions; delete your listings or your entire account; and ask for a copy of your data by email.
Children's privacy
DealNest is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
Data in transit is protected with TLS. Account access is protected by one-time codes rather than reusable passwords. Server-side data is stored with access rules that restrict each user to their own records, and vendor storefronts expose only the fields intended to be public.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affecting your data occurs, affected users will be notified.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated as DealNest moves from development to release. Changes are published here with a revised "Last updated" date.
